The EDBT Summer School brings together leading researchers recognized as leading experts in their fields and provides participants the opportunity to gain deeper insight into current research trends in the database area.

In 2013 the school focus will be data all around: big, linked, open. The scientific topics will cover large-scale data storage and processing in the areas of social networks and open data. The school will be organized as a combination of lectures, hands-on tutorials and a series of talks. Granted students will present posters and for the first time, students can express their creativity by participating in a research challenge.

The target audience of the school is advanced graduate and PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, and may include few academic and industrial researchers, and developers. The school will be open to about 100 qualified, motivated and pre-selected candidates.

Participants will be selected according to the order of application, the quality of the submitted request and the institution of provenance to ensure a balanced group of people. PhD students will have to send a copy of their student card at registration time once they have been accepted to the school.

The school fee is 600 Euros. The fee includes all courses, hand-out material, coffee/tea breaks, social events and accommodation. The EDBT Association will provide a limited number of grants covering school fee only or school fee and accommodation. Those interested on school fellowships must give arguments in their motivation letter.

Bursaries will be awarded based upon the background and the scientific performance of the applicants. The economic development level of applicant institutions will also be considered.
